Investing in Others

So, I’ve been working pretty hard lately.  Not on my new job, though I am working there and it is going swimmingly, thanks for asking!  No, lately I’ve been working hard on investing in other writers.  Little known fact, I love other writers.

No, seriously.  I may hate people, but I love other writers.  Partly because other writers are barely people.

And partly because they write stuff, and I like to read stuff.  I’ve been mulling over OSMBlags for a long time.  Right now it’s pretty much just me, a WordPress install, and a little bit of custom coding.  I would like it to be me, some good writers, a WordPress install, and a ton of custom cool stuff.

I’ve been working out some ideas.  What writers really need is an audience.  They already have something to say, they already have the means to say it, they just lack readers.  Blogging has traditionally been so many people with so little to say to so few.  I’ve never really understood why.  The world is filled with so many people with so much to say and so many ready to listen.  (Yes, deep down inside of my cold exterior inside of the shriveled up black hole of a heart is just the tiniest bit of optimism.  I still hate people though.)  The problem is noise.  Ads.  Trivialities.  Banalities. 30-year-olds complaining about the problems of 13-year-olds.  The world is loud and the internet is basically a happening rave.

I want to turn OSMBlags into a quiet place where writers log into “distraction free mode” to share their deepest thoughts and where readers come back because they know that the writers at OSMBlags are worth listening to.

[I need to go to bed.  I’m getting sappy.]

How am I going to do all this?  Beats the heck outta me, but I thought you might be able to help me think about it.
